Questions

What is a prediction market?

A marketplace for contracts on outcomes. A contract pays $1 if it happens and $0 if not. The price, 1 to 99 cents, is the market's estimated chance.

Is prediction market trading legal in the US?

Yes. The exchanges are regulated by the CFTC and most operate nationwide. A few states restrict sports contracts; check each app's states in the table.

Which sports can I trade?

Every app here covers the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and college sports. Some add soccer and esports, and a few cover esports only through pick'em or social picks. The table marks which.

How much do I need to start?

A few dollars. Contracts cost cents each, and most apps let you start small.

How do the apps make money?

A small fee per trade or a commission on winnings, shown before you confirm, plus the spread between buy and sell prices.

How is this different from a sportsbook?

A sportsbook sets the odds and builds in its margin. On an exchange, other traders set the price, fees are separate, and you can sell before the game ends.
